UIC finds adoption, at first reading, of law prohibiting use of phthalates, parabens and alkylphenols incomprehensible
The French chemical industries association, UIC, finds it incomprehensible that the French Parliament has adopted a new law prohibiting the use of phthalates, parabens and alkylphenols, at the first reading of the bill.

REACH : 12 days before the first registration deadline, UIC is confident
Companies have only 12 days left to comply with the 30th November 2010¹ deadline. They must submit their registration dossiers before this date if they wish to continue to produce, import or market their substances. ECHA² had received registration dossiers for 2472 substances in Europe by November 18th, that is a little over half of the total number expected...

Regulations simplified | UIC gladly welcomes new approach to industrial regulation
A key conclusion of the États Généraux de l’Industrie (EGI), or Chemistry Today Conference, was the utmost importance of simplifying regulation of the industry, so as to preserve the competitiveness of industrial businesses in France, particularly that of SMEs. The implementation of this goal was entrusted to the member of parliament for the Eure-et-Loir region, Laure de la Raudière¹, who published her report yesterday evening.

Launch of the Chemical World Tour
As a result of a thorough selection procedure, 5 students were chosen to go on a voyage of discovery in the search of chemical innovations. Each individual had a different destination in China, Brazil, the United States, France or Germany. The journeys took place between 26 October and 4 November.

French chemical industry makes good progress in 2010
In the first quarter of 2010, production levels for the French chemical industry went up 3% quarter-on-quarter. This was the fourth successive increase since the downturn and represents a 15.4% increase compared to production levels in the first quarter of 2009.

UIC anticipates a modest and fragile recovery, with strong growth holding off until 2011 or even 2012
In 2009, the French chemical industry was severely affected by an unprecedented global economic crisis. During the first quarter, businesses in the sector and those further downstream continued to clear stock reserves, resulting in a sharp decline in production. Post-Copenhagen: UIC warns of the risks of bidding too high
Although the Copenhagen Summit enabled all participating countries to affirm their common concerns about climate change and their intention to limit greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions without compromising economic and social development, the Agreement does not impose any limits on emissions generated by the signatory countries.
